What is Aromatherapy
The use of Aromatherapy dates back to Egypt, over 5000 years ago. It is a therapy where oils are extracted from the flowers, leaves, bark, roots, stems, seeds, or fruit of a plant. The oils are either inhaled from a bottle or diffuser or diluted in spring water or oil and applied to the skin or spritzed in the environment. We create custom essential oil blends through the method of dowsing on a one by one basis for our clients. Typically, each animal that tests positive for this therapy will require a blend of 3-5 oils. We then test to determine the application, the dose, the frequency and the duration.
How Aromatherapy Works
The essential oil or hydrosol (for cats or small animals) is inhaled or rubbed into the skin. When the nose senses the oil, the molecules of the oil are sent as electrical impulses which are processed in the part of the brain where memories and emotions are stored. As the brain processes the aromas it triggers chemical releases within the body such as:
Serotonin, which has a calming effect
Noradrenaline, which stimulates and rejuvenates
Endorphins, which helps relieve pain
After the molecules are absorbed by the brain, they enter the bloodstream and make their way throughout the body.
There are 500 million sensors in a dog's nose so bear in mind that these oils must be diluted.
Cost is $28 per custom blend.
